Strain differences in poliovirus soluble antigen complement fixation may inform serologic assay design; leaves open diagnostic and antigenic characterization needs.
Golda Selzer (1959) studied Poliomyelitis virus infection (laboratory model). Mahoney Type 1 poliomyelitis virus antigen vs. MEF1 Type 2 poliomyelitis virus antigen was evaluated on Complement-fixation titre. The infective virus fraction of suckling mouse-adapted Mahoney Type 1 poliovirus produced good complement fixation, but its soluble antigen fixed far less complement than the MEF1 Type 2 strain.
