First complete Sardinian ASFV p72 genotype I genome; leaves open the functional impact of multigene family variations on swine virulence.
The first complete genome sequencing of an ASFV p72 genotype I strain from Sardinia reveals major variations in multigene families compared to other isolates.
Bacciu et al. (2016) studied African swine fever virus. Genomic sequencing of ASFV p72 genotype I strain (Sardinian 26544/OG10) vs. Other ASFV genomes (L60, OURT 88/3, NHV, BA71V) was evaluated on Genomic characteristics and comparative analysis. Sequencing of the Sardinian ASFV p72 genotype I strain revealed a 182,906 bp genome with 164 ORFs, sharing 99.20% nucleotide identity with the L60 strain and major variations in multigene families.
