Key result
Rapid atrial pacing to the Wenckebach point strongly correlates with AV node FRP and ERP.

Rapid atrial pacing is a reliable test of A-V conduction that closely correlates with refractory period measurements obtained via the extrastimulus technique.
Bissett et al. (1975) conducted an observational in Patients undergoing diagnostic cardiac catheterization (n=41). Rapid atrial pacing vs. Refractory period measurements utilizing the extrastimulus technique was evaluated on Correlation between Wenckebach point (WP) and functional refractory period (FRP) of the A-V node (r=0.89, p=<0.01). Rapid atrial pacing to the Wenckebach point correlated significantly with the functional refractory period of the A-V node (r=0.89, P<0.01) and the effective refractory period (r=0.81).
