Hydrogel-encapsulated BMMNCs boost cell engraftment and preserve LVEF versus controls in MI rabbits.
Why the study?
Does injection of hydrogel-encapsulated BMMNCs improve cell engraftment and restore cardiac function in a rabbit model of myocardial infarction?
Does injection of hydrogel-encapsulated BMMNCs improve cell engraftment and restore cardiac function in a rabbit model of myocardial infarction?
Encapsulating bone marrow-derived mononuclear cells in a hydrogel improves cell engraftment and preserves left ventricular function in a preclinical rabbit model of myocardial infarction.

Li et al. (2010) studied Myocardial infarction. Bone marrow-derived mononuclear cells (BMMNCs) encapsulated in hydrogel vs. Cell culture medium, hydrogel alone, or BMMNCs in medium was evaluated on Cell engraftment and LV function (ejection fraction and dilatation). Injection of hydrogel-encapsulated BMMNCs increased cell engraftment at 48 hours and preserved LV ejection fraction at 30 days compared with control groups in MI rabbits.
