Key result
Prostaglandin E2 and iloprost reduce the cardiac response to adrenergic stimulation in guinea-pig atria.

Suggests differential prostaglandin modulation of adrenergic responses in guinea-pig atrial versus ventricular tissue; leaves open relevance to human cardiac physiology.
Do prostaglandins (PGE2, iloprost) modulate the cardiac response to adrenergic nerve stimulation differently in atrial versus ventricular preparations?
Endogenous prostaglandins appear to have a different modulatory role on adrenergic neurotransmission in atrial compared to ventricular tissue in guinea pigs.
Mantelli et al. (1990) studied this question. Prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) and iloprost was evaluated on Cardiac response to adrenergic nerve stimulation. Prostaglandin E2 and iloprost concentration-dependently reduced the cardiac response to adrenergic nerve stimulation in guinea-pig isolated atria, suggesting a modulator role for endogenous prostaglandins.
