Post-CABG BNP peaks at 24 hours but correlates with hemodynamics only in reduced LV function.
Observational (n=21)
A postoperative peak of BNP 24 hours after CABG does not necessarily reflect acute perioperative heart failure, suggesting altered BNP metabolism or gene expression following extracorporeal circulation.

Post-CABG BNP peaks should not prompt acute HF treatment changes; hypothesis-generating for altered kinetics by LV function in observational data.
Bail et al. (2004) conducted an observational in Coronary artery disease (n=21). Coronary artery bypass grafting vs. Normal vs reduced left ventricular function was evaluated on Plasma concentrations of BNP and its relation to hemodynamic parameters. In patients undergoing CABG, postoperative BNP peaked at 24 hours but did not reflect acute heart failure, correlating with hemodynamics only in those with reduced left ventricular function.
