Does recombinant tissue factor pathway inhibitor prevent thrombus formation on procoagulant subendothelial matrix in a human ex vivo model?
Absolute Event Rate: 7% vs 82%
p-value: p=<0.001
Recombinant tissue factor pathway inhibitor, in a factor Xa-dependent manner, prevents thrombus formation on procoagulant extracellular matrix in an ex vivo model, suggesting potential as an antithrombotic agent.
Lindahl et al. (1994) studied Thrombogenesis. recombinant tissue factor pathway inhibitor (rTFPI) with factor VIIa and factor Xa vs. endotoxin stimulated endothelial cells without preincubation was evaluated on Fibrin deposition (matrix surface coverage) (p=<0.001). Preincubating procoagulant extracellular matrix with rTFPI, factor VIIa, and factor Xa reduced fibrin deposition to 7% compared to 82% in the control matrix (P<0.001).
