Substantial flow-independent intrarenal conversion in dogs; leaves open applicability to human renal physiology.
Intrarenal conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II in dogs is substantial and remains independent of renal blood flow reductions.
Rosivall et al. (1983) studied this question. Reduced renal blood flow via renal artery constriction vs. Normal renal blood flow was evaluated on Mean conversion of ANG I to ANG II during a single passage through the kidney. Intrarenal conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II in the dog kidney averaged 21.8% at control renal blood flow and was not significantly altered when blood flow was reduced by up to 55%.
