May indicate novel ANF receptor regulation by TSH in thyroid cells; leaves open human relevance and clinical translation.
Effect estimate: 5.6-fold increase
Absolute Event Rate: 227.2% vs 40.2%
In FRTL-5 rat thyroid cells, TSH upregulates ANF-binding sites that are not coupled to cGMP production, suggesting a novel or altered form of natriuretic peptide receptor.
D. F. Sellitti (1999) studied this question. Thyrotropin (TSH) vs. TSH-deficient medium was evaluated on High affinity ANF-binding sites (Bmax) (5.6-fold increase). Long-term thyrotropin treatment of FRTL-5 rat thyroid cells produced a 5.6-fold increase in high-affinity ANF-binding sites (227.2 vs 40.2 fmol/mg protein) uncoupled from cGMP production.
