Chronic IV ANP infusion fails to alter basal or hypotension-induced plasma renin activity in dogs.
Why the study?
Does a physiological dose of ANP alter renin release in response to renal hypotension in conscious dogs?
Does a physiological dose of ANP alter renin release in response to renal hypotension in conscious dogs?
Physiological doses of ANP do not appreciably alter basal plasma renin activity or renin release in response to renal hypotension in conscious sodium-replete dogs.

ANP at physiological doses does not inhibit renin in conscious dogs; leaves open relevance to human cardiorenal disease.
Kivlighn et al. (1990) studied this question. alpha-human ANP vs. Control conditions was evaluated on Plasma renin activity (PRA) response to reduced renal arterial pressure. Chronic intravenous infusion of a physiological dose of ANP did not significantly alter basal plasma renin activity or renin release in response to renal hypotension in conscious dogs.
