Key result
IV alpha-ANP reduces plasma aldosterone ~15% and suppresses cortisol in healthy volunteers.
Why the study?
Does synthetic human alpha-ANP intravenous infusion affect plasma levels of ACTH, cortisol, aldosterone, and DHEA in normotensive, disease-free volunteers?
Does synthetic human alpha-ANP intravenous infusion affect plasma levels of ACTH, cortisol, aldosterone, and DHEA in normotensive, disease-free volunteers?
p-value: p=<0.05

Does not support clinical use of ANP; leaves open its role in steroid regulation in disease states.
Ōhashi et al. (1986) studied Healthy volunteers (n=8). Synthetic human alpha-ANP (h alpha-ANP) vs. Saline was evaluated on Plasma levels of ACTH, cortisol, aldosterone and dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) (p=<0.05). Intravenous infusion of synthetic human alpha-ANP reduced mean plasma aldosterone concentration by 15% (P<0.05) and suppressed plasma cortisol in healthy volunteers.
