Key result
QRS departure area strongly correlates with ventriculography asynergy score and LVEF in anterior MI.
Why the study?
The clinical usefulness of body surface potential maps for assessing myocardial infarction severity compared with left ventriculography was unclear.
Do body surface potential maps (QRS departure maps and ST maps) accurately assess myocardial infarction severity compared to left ventriculography in patients with myocardial infarction?
Observational (n=75)
Do body surface potential maps (QRS departure maps and ST maps) accurately assess myocardial infarction severity compared to left ventriculography in patients with myocardial infarction?
Effect estimate: r=0.81
p-value: p=<0.001
Body surface potential mapping (QRS departure and ST maps) is a clinically useful, non-invasive tool that correlates well with left ventriculography for assessing myocardial infarction severity and wall motion abnormalities.
May support non-invasive anterior MI severity assessment; leaves open replacement of ventriculography pending prospective validation.

Nakano et al. (1987) conducted an observational in Old myocardial infarction (n=75). QRS departure maps and ST maps vs. Left ventriculography was evaluated on Correlation between departure area and asynergy score in anterior myocardial infarction (r=0.81, p=<0.001). In patients with anterior myocardial infarction, the departure area on QRS departure maps significantly correlated with the asynergy score (r=0.81, p<0.001) and left ventricular ejection fraction (r=-0.69, p<0.001) determined by left ventriculography.
