Multiplex RT-qPCR of swine oral fluids rapidly detects ASFV, CSFV, and FMDV, enabling herd-level surveillance.
Why the study?
Early detection of ASF, CSF, and FMD in swine is critical, and a rapid, cost-effective multiplex test using a single sample is highly desirable for herd-level surveillance.

Supports oral fluid mRT-qPCR for ASF/CSF/FMD surveillance in swine; leaves open field validation before routine adoption.
Grau et al. (2015) studied African swine fever, classical swine fever, and foot-and-mouth disease in swine. Multiplex reverse transcription real-time polymerase chain reaction (mRT-qPCR) in swine oral fluids was evaluated on Detection of ASFV, CSFV, and FMDV. Multiplex RT-qPCR of swine oral fluids successfully detected ASFV as early as 3 days postinoculation, CSFV at 5 days, and FMDV at 1 day, demonstrating feasibility for herd-level surveillance.
