Key result
Fitness-related ACE, PPARA, and ACTN3 genotypes link to speed/power versus endurance sport predisposition.
Why the study?
The study aimed to link fitness-related genotypes to specific physical fitness phenotypes and sport predispositions in Lithuanian elite athletes.
Are specific genetic polymorphisms associated with physical fitness phenotypes and sport category predisposition in elite athletes?
Case-Control (n=443)
Are specific genetic polymorphisms associated with physical fitness phenotypes and sport category predisposition in elite athletes?
Specific genetic polymorphisms in ACE, PPARA, and ACTN3 are associated with predisposition to speed/power or endurance sports in Lithuanian elite athletes.

Supports genetic associations with sport type in Lithuanian athletes; leaves open generalizability and clinical utility.
Ginevičienė et al. (2010) conducted a case-control in Elite athletic performance (n=443). Fitness-related genotypes (ACE, ACTN3, PPARGC1A, PPARA) vs. General population controls was evaluated on Genotype-phenotype association and predisposition towards a specific sport category. Fitness-related genotypes ACE II, PPARA CC, and ACTN3 RR were associated with speed/power sports, while ACE DD and PPARA GG were related to endurance sports in Lithuanian athletes.
