High-pass filters of 120Hz and 160Hz increase VT late potential detection by ~50% versus 100Hz.
Why the study?
The clinical utility of using low cut filters higher than 100Hz for recording late potentials to predict ventricular tachycardia was unclear.
Does multi-stage high-frequency ECG using low-cut filters >100Hz improve the identification of ventricular tachycardia compared to standard 100Hz filters in patients with old myocardial infarction?
Observational (n=101)
No
Does multi-stage high-frequency ECG using low-cut filters >100Hz improve the identification of ventricular tachycardia compared to standard 100Hz filters in patients with old myocardial infarction?
Absolute Event Rate: 78.3% vs 52.2%
Multi-stage high-frequency ECG using low-cut filters >100Hz improves the identification of ventricular tachycardia risk compared to standard 100Hz filters.
May aid late potential detection in VT but should not change practice; hypothesis-generating for post-MI risk stratification.

Sakurai et al. (1998) conducted an observational in Old myocardial infarction and ventricular tachycardia (n=101). High-pass filters >100Hz (120Hz and 160Hz) using a subtraction method vs. Standard 100Hz high-pass filter was evaluated on Detection rate of late potentials in patients with ventricular tachycardia. Using high-pass filters of 120Hz and 160Hz with a subtraction method increased the detection rate of late potentials in patients with ventricular tachycardia from 52.2% to 78.3% compared to the standard 100Hz filter.
