Key result
PPARgamma Pro12Ala polymorphism linked to ~3 mmHg lower diastolic BP vs Pro/Pro in T2D.
Why the study?
The association between the Pro12Ala polymorphism in PPARgamma and blood pressure in subjects with type 2 diabetes was unclear.

Comparison
PPARgamma Pro12Ala polymorphism (Pro/Ala or Ala/Ala) vs Pro/Pro genotype

Supports modest DBP association in T2D; hypothesis-generating and should not change practice without prospective confirmation.
Cross-Sectional (n=384)
Is the PPARgamma Pro12Ala polymorphism associated with blood pressure in subjects with type 2 diabetes?
Mean Difference: 2.8 (95% CI 0.6–5)
The common Pro12Ala polymorphism in PPARgamma is associated with lower diastolic blood pressure in male subjects with type 2 diabetes.
Östgren et al. (2003) conducted a cross-sectional in Type 2 diabetes (n=384). PPARgamma Pro12Ala polymorphism (Pro/Ala or Ala/Ala genotype) vs. Pro/Pro genotype was evaluated on Diastolic blood pressure (MD 2.8, 95% CI 0.6-5.0). The PPARgamma Pro12Ala polymorphism was associated with lower diastolic blood pressure (difference 2.8 mmHg; 95% CI 0.6-5.0) compared to the Pro/Pro genotype in patients with type 2 diabetes.
