Celsior improves LV contractility vs HTK, KHB, and STH-1 in rat hearts after ischemia-reperfusion.
Why the study?
There is a growing need to improve myocardial protection to enhance cardiac operation performance and reduce morbidity and mortality.
Do different crystalloid cardioprotective solutions (CEL, HTK, STH-1) improve myocardial protection compared to KHB in isolated rat hearts during ischemia and reperfusion?
Do different crystalloid cardioprotective solutions (CEL, HTK, STH-1) improve myocardial protection compared to KHB in isolated rat hearts during ischemia and reperfusion?
In an isolated rat heart model, Celsior solution provided superior preservation of left ventricular contractility following ischemia and reperfusion compared to other crystalloid solutions.

Hypothesis-generating for Celsior in experimental cardioplegia; leaves open translation to human myocardial protection.
Lima et al. (2012) studied Myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (experimental) (n=32). Celsior (CEL) solution vs. KHB, HTK, and STH-1 solutions was evaluated on Left ventricular contractility (LVSP, +dP/dt, -dP/dt) and coronary flow. Celsior solution provided significantly better left ventricular contractility compared to HTK, KHB, and STH-1 in isolated rat hearts subjected to ischemia and reperfusion.
