This study investigates the application of a Sliding Mode Control (SMC) technique to a 1 MW grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) system at a beverage factory in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, to enhance power quality and energy efficiency. The SMC strategy effectively addressed voltage instability, harmonic distortions, and inefficiencies common in grid-connected PV systems. Post-implementation, voltage regulation stabilized at 410 V ± 2 V, total harmonic distortion decreased from 7.8% to 3.2%, and the power factor improved above 0.95. Additionally, the system achieved a 15% increase in energy efficiency and reduced annual CO2 emissions by 1200 metric tons, promoting sustainable industrial energy practices.
