Key result
Kinin B2 blockade abolishes bradykinin hemodynamics and blunts muscle reflex cardiovascular responses.
Why the study?
The receptors mediating bradykinin's effect on skeletal muscle afferents causing the exercise pressor reflex were not fully determined.
Population
30 anesthetized cats
Comparison
Bradykinin and kinin B1 agonist with or without kinin B2-receptor antagonist or indomethacin
Design
Preclinical experimental study

B2-receptor antagonism abolishes bradykinin pressor reflex in feline muscle; leaves open relevance to human exercise pressor responses.
Bradykinin contributes to the exercise pressor reflex through its action on kinin B2 receptors located on the nerve endings of muscle afferents.
Pan et al. (1993) studied this question. Kinin B2-receptor antagonist (NPC 17731) vs. Baseline (before injection) was evaluated on Hemodynamic response (mean arterial pressure, maximal change in pressure over time, heart rate). Kinin B2-receptor blockade abolished the hemodynamic response to bradykinin and attenuated responses to electrically stimulated hindlimb contraction in anesthetized cats.
