Longitudinal cohort study demonstrates progressive cardiovascular involvement in Marfan syndrome patients, highlighting the need for sustained aortic surveillance.
Marsalese et al. (1989) conducted a cohort in Marfan's syndrome (n=84). Cardiovascular surgery vs. Nonsurgical management was evaluated on Overall survival and causes of death. In patients with Marfan's syndrome, 87% of deaths were cardiovascular-related, and overall survival at 5, 10, and 15 years after cardiovascular surgery was 78.4%, 57.1%, and 49.5%.
