Why the study?
The pathophysiology and relationship between cardiac hypertrophy and coronary arteriosclerosis in hypertensive cardiac diseases were not fully understood.

Provides preclinical support for vectorcardiographic LVH detection in genetic hypertension; human translation remains untested.
Michiya Ohtaka (1980) studied Hypertensive cardiac diseases. Genetic hypertension vs. Normotensive Wistar-Kyoto rats (WK) was evaluated on Vectorcardiogram patterns, morphological features, and coronary arterial wall thickening. Genetic hypertension in spontaneously hypertensive rats was associated with left ventricular hypertrophy on vectorcardiography and coronary arterial wall thickening compared to normotensive rats.
