Near-normal Oxford UKA component alignment is linked to higher 1-year patient acceptable symptom state achievement.
Why the study?
Do preoperative and postoperative alignment changes and implant placement angles affect 1-year clinical outcomes (KOOS PASS) in patients undergoing Oxford UKA?
Observational (n=23)
No
Do preoperative and postoperative alignment changes and implant placement angles affect 1-year clinical outcomes (KOOS PASS) in patients undergoing Oxford UKA?
In Oxford UKA, placing the tibial and femoral implants close to normal alignment (e.g., 3 degrees varus for tibia, perpendicular to tibia for femur) may improve 1-year patient-reported clinical outcomes.
Closer-to-neutral alignment may improve 1-year PASS after Oxford UKA; observational association leaves open need for randomized confirmation before practice change.

Sasaki et al. (2026) conducted an observational in Knee osteoarthritis (n=23). Oxford unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) was evaluated on Achievement of Patient Acceptable Symptom State (PASS) for KOOS subscales (symptom, pain, ADL, QOL) at 1 year postoperatively. In patients undergoing Oxford unicompartmental knee arthroplasty, placing the tibial and femoral components closer to normal alignment angles (such as tibial component at 3 degrees varus) was associated with higher achievement of Patient Acceptable Symptom State at 1 year.
