Key result
ELCA enables safe thrombus reduction and high procedural success in complex STEMI.
Why the study?
The role of excimer laser coronary angioplasty as an adjunct in primary PCI for complex STEMI lesions was evaluated to address procedural challenges in high-risk cases.
Does excimer laser coronary angioplasty (ELCA) improve procedural success and safety during primary PCI in patients with complex STEMI lesions?

Does excimer laser coronary angioplasty (ELCA) improve procedural success and safety during primary PCI in patients with complex STEMI lesions?
ELCA appears to be a safe and effective adjunctive strategy for managing complex, high-risk lesions during primary PCI for STEMI.
ELCA may be feasible in selected complex STEMI; hypothesis-generating and should not change practice without randomized trials.
Excimer laser coronary angioplasty (ELCA) was evaluated as an adjunct during primary PCI (Percutaneous Coronary Intervention)in complex STEMI cases. In this case series, ELCA facilitated thrombus reduction, improved distal flow, and enabled successful revascularization. Procedural success was high without added complications, supporting ELCA as a safe and effective strategy in selected high-risk lesions.

Jha et al. (2026) conducted a case report in Complex STEMI. Excimer laser coronary angioplasty (ELCA) during primary PCI was evaluated on Procedural success and complications. Excimer laser coronary angioplasty (ELCA) facilitated thrombus reduction, improved distal flow, and achieved high procedural success without added complications in complex STEMI cases.
