An affordable, Arduino-based measurement system provides accuracy and reproducibility comparable to commercial defibrillator analyzers, making it a viable tool for clinical engineering education and bench testing.
Accurate measurement of defibrillator output energy is essential for ensuring therapeutic efficacy and patient safety. This study evaluated the statistical validity and agreement of a low-cost, portable measurement system based on the Arduino Due, which incorporates a 12-bit, high-speed ADC. Defibrillation waveforms generated by a defibrillator (TEC-5601, Nihon Kohden) were used as the input signal source at five energy settings (50–200 J), and the measurements were compared with those obtained using a Defibrillator/Transcutaneous Pacer Analyzer (Phase 3, Datrend Systems). The concordance correlation coefficient (CCC) exceeded 0.999, indicating almost perfect agreement. Bland–Altman analysis showed minimal bias, with most data points falling within the 95% limits of agreement. The coefficient of variation (CV) remained below 5% across all energy levels, demonstrating high repeatability. These findings suggest that the Arduino-based system provides accuracy and reproducibility comparable to a commercial analyzer. Given its affordability and portability, the system may serve as a practical educational tool or supplementary device for basic bench testing in clinical engineering training environments.

光崇 吉澤 (2026) studied this question. Arduino Due-based measurement system vs. Defibrillator/Transcutaneous Pacer Analyzer (Phase 3, Datrend Systems) was evaluated on Statistical validity and agreement of defibrillator output energy measurements (CCC > 0.999). An Arduino-based measurement system evaluated defibrillator output energy with almost perfect agreement to a commercial analyzer (CCC > 0.999) and high repeatability (CV < 5%).
