Population

5 male patients (49 to 68 years old) with pure vasospastic angina (Prinzmetal's angina) with more than six episodes/day of myocardial ischemia at rest characterized by ST segment elevation on ECG.

Intervention

Ketanserin (2 mg/hr iv, preceded by a 10 mg bolus in three patients) infused for 6 hr periods.

Comparator

Placebo infused for 6 hr periods in a crossover design.

Outcome

Number of ischemic episodes (recorded by Holter monitoring) and nitroglycerin consumption.surrogate

Limitations

Small sample size (n=5)
