Why the study?
Does activation of ATP-sensitive K+ channels or NO donors alter basilar artery diameter in anesthetized rats, and is this mediated by NO or calcium-activated K+ channels?
Population
Anesthetized rats
Comparison

Aprikalim dilates rat basilar artery independently of NO; leaves open KCa channel mediation of augmented nitroprusside responses under NO inhibition.
Does activation of ATP-sensitive K+ channels or NO donors alter basilar artery diameter in anesthetized rats, and is this mediated by NO or calcium-activated K+ channels?
Dilator responses of the basilar artery to ATP-sensitive potassium channel activators are not mediated by NO, but when endogenous NO is inhibited, NO donors cause opening of calcium-activated K+ channels.
