Interferon limits poliovirus replication without blocking host shut-off in models; leaves open any therapeutic role in animal or human enteroviral disease.
Interferon treatment inhibits poliovirus protein synthesis but does not prevent host protein synthesis shut-off, suggesting early viral gene expression is sufficient to block cellular protein synthesis.
