Implication

May support volume quantitation in PS with shunt; leaves open prospective validation in children.

Structured PICO

P
Population
27 children with pulmonary stenosis (PS) and intact ventricular septum undergoing routine cardiac catheterization, including 21 with isolated PS (group I) and 6 with PS and right-to-left atrial shunt (group II).
O
Outcome
Right (RV) and left ventricular (LV) volume variables (including RVEDV, RVEF, RVSI, LVEDV, LVEF, LVSI) calculated via Simpson's rule and area length methodssurrogate

Ventricular function is generally normal in children with isolated pulmonary stenosis, but evidence of depressed function exists in those with a right-to-left interatrial shunt, making volume quantitation potentially helpful in the latter group.
