Provides lymphangiographic findings in a rare case of post-mastectomy lymphangiosarcoma (Stewart-Treves syndrome).
Lymphangiography may aid diagnosis in suspected Stewart-Treves syndrome; hypothesis-generating and should not yet change practice.
Since Stewart and Treves (1948) first reported lymphangiosarcoma in chronically oedematous arms following mastectomy, the condition has been extensively recorded. The following is a further report with lymphangiograms. In 1951 the patient, then aged 61, underwent a right radical mastectomy for an undifferentiated carcinoma arising in the upper outer quadrant. Post-operative irradiation 240 kV was applied to the axilla, the supra- and infraclavicular regions and the lower neck, to a dose of 3,770 R given over 28 days.
