2,694 hypertensive patients (10% isolated systolic, 38% mild diastolic, 35% moderate diastolic, 17% severe diastolic hypertension). Concomitant diseases included diabetes mellitus, chronic obstructive airway disease, and peripheral arterial disease.

Celiprolol 200 mg once daily for 3 weeks, with option to increase to 300 mg or add a diuretic for the next 3 weeks.
