Key result
Short-term maternal use of diclofenac sodium was associated with premature closure of the ductus arteriosus, leading to severe pulmonary hypertension and right-sided hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in a neonate.

Case Report (n=1)
Does maternal diclofenac sodium ingestion cause severe neonatal pulmonary hypertension?
Maternal ingestion of diclofenac sodium should be avoided during pregnancy due to the risk of premature closure of the ductus arteriosus and subsequent severe neonatal pulmonary hypertension.
Siu et al. (2004) conducted a case report in Severe pulmonary hypertension and transient right-sided hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (n=1). Maternal diclofenac sodium (Voltaren) ingestion was evaluated on Severe pulmonary hypertension and transient right-sided hypertrophic cardiomyopathy with premature closure of ductus arteriosus. Short-term maternal use of diclofenac sodium was associated with premature closure of the ductus arteriosus, leading to severe pulmonary hypertension and right-sided hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in a neonate.
