Is a new artificial bicuspid aortic and venous valve constructed from stents and porcine SIS feasible and functional for percutaneous insertion in animal models?
This preclinical study demonstrates the initial experimental feasibility of a novel percutaneously inserted artificial bicuspid valve made of stents and porcine submucosa in animal models.
Pavčnik et al. (2000) studied this question. Artificial bicuspid aortic and venous valve was evaluated on Function and stability of the valves (pressure measurements, aortograms, venograms, gross and histologic evaluation). A new artificial bicuspid aortic and venous valve constructed from square stents covered by porcine small intestine submucosa was successfully inserted percutaneously and evaluated in animal models.
