Animal data link cerebellar fastigial nuclei to delayed BP compensation; leaves open translation to human cardiovascular control.
The cerebellar fastigial nuclei appear to compensate for large blood pressure changes through sympathoexcitatory and inhibitory processes that accompany late-developing somatic or respiratory adjustments.
Rector et al. (2006) studied this question. Phenylephrine and nitroprusside was evaluated on Cerebellar fastigial nuclei neural activity. Elevation of arterial pressure diminished cerebellar fastigial nuclei neural activity, while hypotension increased activity, with peak neural responses occurring 5-10 s later than peak BP changes.
