Key result
Higher mean platelet volume linked to troponin-positive ACS.
Why the study?
Does mean platelet volume (MPV) assessment improve risk stratification for acute coronary syndrome?
Case-Control (n=81)
Does mean platelet volume (MPV) assessment improve risk stratification for acute coronary syndrome?
Odds Ratio: 0.358 (95% CI 0.022–0.133)
p-value: p=0.007
Mean platelet volume is significantly elevated in troponin-positive acute coronary syndrome and may serve as a useful biomarker for risk stratification.

May support adding MPV to ACS risk assessment; leaves open incremental value and clinical utility pending validation.
Islam Elsayed Shehata (2016) conducted a case-control in Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) (n=81). Mean Platelet Volume (MPV) vs. Healthy controls was evaluated on Probability of Tn +ve ACS development (OR 0.358, 95% CI 0.022-0.133, p=0.007). Increased mean platelet volume was significantly associated with the development of troponin-positive acute coronary syndrome (OR 0.358, P=0.007).
