Key result
MDM2 and CDK4 expression reliably distinguishes DDLPS from PLPS despite overlapping cytologic features.
Why the study?
The cytomorphologic features of dedifferentiated liposarcoma and pleomorphic liposarcoma and the utility of ancillary studies have not been systemically analyzed.
What are the cytomorphologic differences and utility of MDM2/CDK4 immunohistochemistry in distinguishing dedifferentiated liposarcoma from pleomorphic liposarcoma?
Comparison

MDM2/CDK4 coexpression may aid cytologic distinction of DDLPS from PLPS; hypothesis-generating and requires prospective validation.
Observational (n=38)
What are the cytomorphologic differences and utility of MDM2/CDK4 immunohistochemistry in distinguishing dedifferentiated liposarcoma from pleomorphic liposarcoma?
Coexpression of MDM2 and CDK4 reliably distinguishes dedifferentiated liposarcoma from pleomorphic liposarcoma, despite overlapping cytologic features.
Mariño‐Enríquez et al. (2013) conducted an observational in Dedifferentiated liposarcoma and pleomorphic liposarcoma (n=38). Dedifferentiated liposarcoma vs. Pleomorphic liposarcoma was evaluated on Cytomorphologic features and MDM2/CDK4 expression. Dedifferentiated liposarcoma and pleomorphic liposarcoma exhibit overlapping cytologic features, but expression of MDM2 (96%) and CDK4 (80%) distinguishes DDLPS from PLPS (0% coexpression).
