Key result
ACE D and apo epsilon 4 alleles show ~4% higher frequency in Alzheimer's disease patients.
Why the study?
Both apolipoprotein-E epsilon 4 allele and ACE deletion polymorphism have been associated with high risk for coronary heart disease, and increased epsilon 4 frequency has been reported in late-onset Alzheimer's disease, motivating examination of the relationship between ACE gene polymorphism and AD.
Are ACE gene polymorphisms and apo-E genotypes associated with Alzheimer's disease?
Case-Control
Are ACE gene polymorphisms and apo-E genotypes associated with Alzheimer's disease?
Absolute Event Rate: 55.7% vs 51.7%
The study suggests an association between the ACE deletion polymorphism, apo-E epsilon 4 allele, and Alzheimer's disease.

May support genetic risk models in Alzheimer's; leaves open validation before any clinical adoption.
İşbir et al. (2001) conducted a case-control in Alzheimer's disease. ACE D and apo-E epsilon 4 alleles vs. Healthy controls was evaluated on ACE D allele frequency. ACE D and apo epsilon 4 alleles were reported to be more frequent in patients with Alzheimer's disease than in controls, with ACE D allele frequencies of 55.7% versus 51.7%.
