Cyclic strain increases nitrogen oxides by ~73% but higher strain blunts cell proliferation.
Why the study?
The effects of physical factors, specifically cyclic strain, on nitric oxide production and endothelial cell proliferation were less well characterized compared to biochemical agonists.
p-value: p=<.05

Endogenous NO may regulate endothelial proliferation under cyclic strain; leaves open in vivo relevance for vascular remodeling.
Upchurch et al. (1998) studied this question. Cyclic strain vs. 0% cyclic strain was evaluated on Nitrogen oxides production and cell proliferation (p=<.05). Cyclic strain of 11% increased nitrogen oxides by 73% (P<.05), while 27% strain with bradykinin increased NO synthase activity by 135% but blunted cell proliferation.
