The Prequel and the six papers of this series have been written. What they ask is how the capital, fame, status and qualifications that people accumulate in the Emergence Layer become, in others' decisions, power acting on others, and what direction an institution takes toward it. The answer is gathered into one main line: toward accumulated power, an institution does not aim at reducing it, but checks how it is used: it holds to anti-colonization and strives for cultivation; accumulation is not converted into domination over people's Base Layer, nor into control over questioning; the arrangements that check it are themselves open to questioning. This paper lays down no propositions, and changes no sentence of the seven papers. It does four things. First it steps outside the seven papers and has this machine give an account of itself: what it asks and what it does not ask; how its sentence form and its three layers are arranged; how it divides the work with the Economics series, Institution Theory and the Theory of Government; and why it is not the same thing as the value theory of classical political economy. Then it interfaces with the tradition, at two depths. With the schools whose originals have been examined, all four steps are taken: Smith, Kant, Marx, Hayek, Friedman and Khan, with Hirschman taken by way of page numbers already examined; with the schools reached only through secondary material, it goes as far as the common question and the surface of contact, and writes up the question that stays open until the original has been examined: Hegel, Polanyi, Thompson, Berle and Means, Coase, Galbraith, Anderson, Nozick, Walzer, Sandel, Frankfurt, Piketty and Robeyns. Among the differences, several fall on two lines: whether checks fall on holding and distribution, or on use and conversion; whether the boundary comes from efficiency, knowledge or the public interest, or from structure and from a person's own direction; on which side the schools reached only through secondary material fall is settled once the original books have been examined. At one point, with Kant, this paper says outright that it parts from him here: he takes economic independence as a condition of active citizenship, and this series does not take this up; eligibility to vote lies in the Base Layer, is to be secured, and does not change with standing in the Emergence Layer. Next it settles accounts: how the three items expressly handed on from upstream are discharged, and the several addresses handed downstream. Last, it registers in six slots the places where this series stops; the two items of one of those slots came clear only against the schools. Related works Relation Identifier Scheme Resource type Title References 10.5281/zenodo.19328662 DOI Publication / Preprint How Is Institution Possible: From Inter-Ontological Remainder to Co-Constructive Framework (SAE Foundational Paper 6) References 10.5281/zenodo.19358010 DOI Publication / Preprint Four Layers of Economic Rationality: A Diagnostic Extension of the Rational Agent from Dimensional Sequence Theory (SAE Economics, Paper 1) References 10.5281/zenodo.19384446 DOI Publication / Preprint Dimensional Sequence Economics in Mixed Markets: Remote Observation, Clustering, and Emergence (SAE Economics, Paper 3) References 10.5281/zenodo.19394738 DOI Publication / Preprint The Structural Inevitability of 15DD Emergence in Free Markets: From Baseline Collisions to Perceptual Leap (SAE Economics, Paper 5) References 10.5281/zenodo.19396633 DOI Publication / Preprint Kingdom of Ends vs Kingdom of Means: Phase-Transition Acceleration in the Age of AI (SAE Economics, Paper 6) References 10.5281/zenodo.20046168 DOI Publication / Preprint The Reputation Economy · Dao (SAE Moral Law, Paper 3) References 10.5281/zenodo.20368866 DOI Publication / Preprint What Power Is Not · Shi (SAE Power Theory, Prequel) References 10.5281/zenodo.20769253 DOI Publication / Preprint On the Thickness and Boundary of Basic Rights (SAE Rights Theory, Paper 2) References 10.5281/zenodo.21093939 DOI Publication / Preprint The Interface and Transformation between Recognition-Based Rights and Power (SAE Rights Theory, Paper 4) References 10.5281/zenodo.21212595 DOI Publication / Preprint On the Limitation and Violation of Basic Rights (SAE Rights Theory, Paper 5) References 10.5281/zenodo.22974154 DOI Publication / Preprint The Place of Judgment (SAE Action Theory, Paper 0) References 10.5281/zenodo.23269635 DOI Publication / Preprint To Whom the Ought Is Addressed (SAE Institution Theory, Paper 1) References 10.5281/zenodo.23270384 DOI Publication / Preprint Not Crossing the Line (SAE Institution Theory, Paper 2) References 10.5281/zenodo.23272468 DOI Publication / Preprint Institution Theory and the Tradition: The Address of the Ought (SAE Institution Theory, Paper 0) References 10.5281/zenodo.23413112 DOI Publication / Preprint Guarantee (SAE Theory of Government, Paper 3) References 10.5281/zenodo.23413511 DOI Publication / Preprint Questioning and Bearing (SAE Theory of Government, Paper 6) References 10.5281/zenodo.23815796 DOI Publication / Preprint The Close (SAE Theory of Inter-State Cooperation, Paper 8)
