Key result
DOAC Dipstick point-of-care test correctly identifies DOAC presence with ~100% accuracy.
Why the study?
In patients with acute stroke, plasma DOAC concentrations must be known for treatment decisions, prompting evaluation of the DOAC Dipstick point-of-care urine test.
Does DOAC Dipstick point-of-care testing rapidly and reliably detect DOACs in patients with acute stroke and TIA?
Population
66 patients with acute stroke and TIA fulfilling inclusion criteria
Comparison
DOAC Dipstick testing in patients with vs without DOAC intake

Does DOAC Dipstick point-of-care testing rapidly and reliably detect DOACs in patients with acute stroke and TIA?
The DOAC Dipstick is a rapid and reliable point-of-care test for detecting the presence of DOACs in patients presenting with acute stroke or TIA, which may aid in acute treatment decisions.
Ziegler et al. (2026) conducted an observational in acute stroke and transient ischemic attack (n=66). DOAC Dipstick point-of-care testing was evaluated on success rate of evaluable pad results and time to results after urine sampling. The DOAC Dipstick point-of-care test correctly identified DOAC presence in 26 of 26 patients with prior intake and absence in 39 of 39 without, with a median time to visual result of 20 minutes.
