Extends endothelin biology in large-animal models; leaves open clinical relevance in human vascular disease.
Hemsén et al. (1991) studied this question. Intravenous infusions of endothelin-2, endothelin-3, big endothelin-1 and sarafotoxin 6b was evaluated on Endothelin-like immunoreactivity, mean arterial blood pressure and vascular resistance. Intravenous infusion of endothelin peptides in pigs demonstrated specific regional vasoconstrictor effects and clearance, with endothelin-1 being formed from circulating big endothelin-1 in vivo.
